I was just there last month for the Easter festivals and before I even left, I wanted to return. The architecture, the food, the people, (did I already say the architecture), just the culture itself……absolutely amazing! The entire time felt like a fever dream – too surreal.
Every day was the walk of 20,000+ steps, and when you’re in old-town where the streets are uneven, cobble stones, the walk feels like 1 million steps. It didn’t matter though, my bestie and I could not get enough of the architecture! From apartment buildings to hotels to the theater – I couldn’t get over how beautiful everything is.
The churches in Prague – breathtaking. Honestly, there isn’t a word extravagant enough to describe them. Some seem unassuming on the outside, but once you breach the entryway – holy buckets! They make you turn to Catholicism just so you can have a seat on Sunday to admire the work. Just look…..
Now the food – everything we ate was absolutely delicious! We had the goulash, roast duck, schnitzel, dumplings and trdelnik (which I like to pronounce as Turtle Neck)! We ate at restaurants and from the vendors at the Easter markets…everything was fantastic. I couldn’t finish my chimney cake – it was too big!
We had to try the ice pub – there’s a reason your session is only 20-30 minutes. It’s way too cold, the drink wasn’t the best (but I’m not a fan of vodka) and they crowd a ton of people into a tiny space. I’m pretty sure it would not pass fire codes in the United States. Anyways – had to try it once!
Along the way, I took lots of pics – even this pic of the paddle boats that are old-timey cars! Zoom in and take a gander!
We also made our way to the gingerbread house and walked down the narrowest street in the country. It even had a stoplight. We went to a medieval dinner, complete with fire dancers, and, what I really looked forward to and it did not disappoint…. The Beer Spa!!!!! After all those steps, I booked the spa on our last day. It was one hour of soaking in a beer bath while my bestie and I drank unlimited mugs of beer, had beer bread with an amazing smear on it – and relaxed while the 87 miles of tread on the legs vanished into nothingness!
So, final remarks…. Prague during Easter? 10 out of 10 – would definitely recommend! Oh yeah – we obviously went to the Astronomical Clock (which, if you know me and my Tracegian, I called the Anatomical Clock every time we walked by it)! It chimed every hour on the hour and made me think of the ride It’s a Small World at Disney. It just had a moving skeleton – not cute little dolls! I don’t know Disney – Prague and their clock (anatomical or astronomical) has you beat!
