Online Dating – Ugh! Am I Right…Still?

Who is still out there doing the online dating game? I have notes, questions (tons of questions) and a phone number to a good therapist cuz that situation can be traumatizing! Seriously – have we not seen Catfish and 90-Day Finance?!?! That mess will keep you from online dating instantly, but still, there are those who do it, currently and – those who have had success with it.

So, I did a little research, tried it out, and I can honestly say, the deception is real! I had individuals trying to catfish me. I thought it was ridiculous but also a bit easy to recognize them (just based on the platform I was on). I’m pretty sure there are individuals that are incentivized for continuing to interact and engage with people. They have no genuine interest in getting to know others, let alone find a true connection. They’re there to help themselves and the platform get money out of you. And – people can get brave/aggressive while hiding behind their laptop/phone. For instance – I was chatting with a guy who got upset because I said I was going out to dinner but I didn’t close out of the app, sooooooo, he accused me of talking to other people and not caring about him! I just laughed…out loud and in the chat! That individual was delulu. We had been chatting for maybe 2 days. People actually expect you to only talk with them while they peruse the online shelves of women and talk to whoever they want. NOT! I can say – to be respectful to everyone involved, even yourself, maybe just say up front that you’re talking to multiple people OR, hear me out, OR – tell others that you’re currently speaking to someone and would like to see where that goes. Crazy thought, I know! The mind reels with the honesty, right?! And – what’s with the TOEs (Terms of Endearment) after only messaging you once?!?! I have a name! Do not call me darling, baby, sweetheart. Oh, AND – why do people ask for more photos!? I had a guy write, “Send me your photos. You might be my love.” Dude! No and no! If you looked at my profile, you saw my pics. You don’t need anymore. It’s a superficial supermarket out there, people. I’m not so sure I want to use my debit card at that store!

I get that there are those that don’t want to meet people at the local bar and the produce aisle in the marketplace may not supply prime melons for the taking (or dating, if you will), but online – there are just so many variables that can go wrong and hurt people. I feel like instead of home economics in high school, there should be a dangers in dating, especially online, course! Photo reverse lookup, searching the name, number, etc to ensure you’re talking to who they say they are AND saying no to money requests! I’ll be back. I need to write the course curriculum…. Until then – stay safe, watch Catfish and 90-Day Fiance and get a puppy! 🐶

Until next time…..xoxo

Tracy
