OK – the last we visited Mr. FP I was driving across the country with him as he was being stationed in Fallon, NV at TOP GUN. Yes, it’s true. He was going to be an instructor pilot at TOP GUN. The drive there was pretty non-eventful. We stopped in Texas to visit his mother and sister but there was no “drama” really. There was an incident where he let me drive his truck, which was pulling a trailer with his Harley Davidson in it. I guess I wasn’t driving the way he wanted me too as he got upset with me and raised his voice for hitting the gas too much while going up a hill. I quickly pulled over, got out of the driver seat and I did not drive for the remainder of the trip. OK – back to Fallon and TOP GUN.

Once we arrived, we found the house that he had negotiated sharing with another instructor prior to his arrival. We unpacked his truck and trailer and then set off to stay in a hotel as he did not want to set up his belongings immediately. We stayed in a really nice hotel but the room was for the hearing impaired. We both felt off about that room – what if someone that actually was hearing impaired needed that room? It’s like using the handicap stall in the restroom when you’re not actually handicap – you don’t do it. We tried to get another room, but the hotel was booked and that was the room we were left with. Question – have you ever stayed in a hearing-impaired room? Neither Mr. FP nor I knew the difference between that and a standard room. Everything looked the same. But – the room was quite different, as we would find out. Side Bar – I have to tell you that Mr. FP was and probably still is a “hotel snob”. He is very particular about where he stays. End of Side Bar. Once we arrived in the room, he noticed bright lights all over the room. He called down to the front desk to ask about moving rooms once again. He was told that a manager would call back. He also asked for additional towels. I turned on the television and waited for the towels. Then – the phone rang. I heard the phone ring but the bed was shaking as well. Additionally, hotel services came with the extra towels and rang the bell, causing a bright light start flashing continuously. Mr. FP was immediately annoyed but I thought it was great! Albeit, it can be startling if you have no idea what to expect (and you have no sense of humor) but I was glad to have experienced it. He complained A LOT and neither one of us got much sleep that night. I was honestly looking forward to my flight home the next day.
As for TOP GUN – I have many stories to tell you about that but I can leave you with this….There was absolutely NO men playing volleyball with their shirts off. No Goose, Maverick or Iceman look-a-likes whatsoever! I looked. I tried to find out if that part of the movie was real or based after something real. And…….NOPE! But, there are still stories to share…….

Until next time….xoxo
Tracy
