Weird mom’s build character – and I got lots of it, Karen!

It sure does!

Yep, it’s true. My mom is weird…and fun, funny, compassionate, caring, and just the best! But weird – oh yes – and I certainly know where I get it as I pass that character right down to my two girls! This is a woman who would take the Skin So Soft from Avon and polish the seats on her car back in the 80s. The horrible car we called the “Dragon Wagon” she would shine like a diamond. She also armor all’d the floor mat of the passenger side only so that when I went to get in the car, and I put my foot down on the mat, I slid so much that I almost went completely under the car! Oh – and when I had strep throat when I was a kid, she asked me where I wanted to go to eat after going to the doctor and having to get a shot. This woman took me to Taco Via! I had the worst sore throat ever and I got 3 crunchy tacos! She’ll tell you to this day, “It’s what you wanted!” She sings, dances and has taught my youngest daughter to yodel and twerk…2 very important life skills. I mean, she uses them daily!

I love my mom! She’s weird!

Obviously, growing up I went through all of the same relationship stepping stones as most girls do with their moms. You know – where I thought I knew everything in high school and my mom knew nothing. Yeah – I was that dumb girl. I learned real quick how wrong I was and my mom has been my best friend since. She has kept my girls when I had to deploy in the Air Force (I’m sure this is when the yodeling started), she came to stay with me when I had a pulmonary embolism and she has been there whenever I need her. But – this is where the character part comes in…although she is the most caring person in the world, she is the most real, honest, direct and FUN person to be around!

My mom and step-dad!

When I call her, she answers the phone with, “Yoo Hoo”. Or, when I ask her if she wants to fight or wrestle, she answers with either a “Not right now” or a “Yeah! Haul your ass over here!” She doesn’t like to watch football and I always tell her that being in Chiefs Kingdom, Santa Claus is watching her. Her response is, “No he’s not! He’s watching football!” We give each other such a hard time and when we get to laughing, it doesn’t stop! We just look at each other and start laughing so hard that we start crying. I get asked quite often how I’m so positive and where it comes from ….. it’s definitely from my mother. That apple did not fall far from the tree at all. Except, I don’t want Dwayne Johnson, The Rock, to be my next husband…that’s all her! But, it’s her birthday tomorrow, and although she hates celebrating – I’m so glad she’s my mom and I get to call her on her birthday, or daily just to talk about ridiculousness, or go line dancing with her on a random Wednesday night, or decorate cookies while we sit around and have drinks, or go to the Legion for Taco Tuesday, or when my girls and I go over for Sunday night dinner OR….when I actually Haul My Ass Over for Wrestle Mania! And guess what else – her name is KAREN! Could it get any better?!??!?!

Until next time…xoxo

Tracy
