The Ogre Show Must Not Go On!

My youngest daughter is having a birthday tomorrow (she’s turning 23 – which means I’m ancient!) but we started the celebration festivities this past weekend. One of the things she wanted to do was see Shrek the Musical at Starlight Theater…an outdoor theater in Kansas City, Missouri. We love going to see shows, but broadway shows at Starlight are amazing! However, while Shrek the Musical was being performed on stage, The Ogre Show was happening all around me!

Starlight Theater

What happened, specifically? I’m glad you asked. First, let me start by saying that the seating area is not luxurious. There is not a ton of room on either side of you or in front. Starlight has not moved to movie theater seating where you can recline your seat. I might wait for that to happen before I return. Both my daughters and I found our seats and I was very happy for the weather. It was supposed to be in the high 90s but rain helped to ward off the heat. The wind was blowing and it actually felt cool. I had my daughter who was about to celebrate her birthday to my right and the seat to my left was open, but only for a short time. The seat mate to my left sat down and she was a very large girl. Now, I’m not body shaming her. Wonderful people come in all shapes, sizes and colors. This girl sat down and even when I scooted as far over to the right as I could, she was still literally sitting on my hip/upper thigh. To make matters worse – she kept making nasty comments about people. IE – “Why are all of the people wearing green? Green is not their color…someone should tell them”. Then, she started eating popcorn and was dropping/spilling it all over, to include on ME. This girl never once said, “Excuse me, Sorry, Do you want some…..NOTHING! I think I had 1/4 of the box on me at one point. And then……yes – there’s more!

The girl sitting directly in front of me kept scratching her head. Now, under normal circumstances a scratch here or there would not bother me BUT this was no ordinary scratch! One of her hands was in her hair throughout the entire show! It was either scratching her head or pulling on the strand of hair to get whatever she had scratched off of her scalp!!! In case you were wondering – YES – you could see the dry skin, etc., in her hair. It got so bad that, remember – I’m already sitting to the far right of my seat – now my legs are almost hanging over my daughters! My daughter was even moving over to allow me space but it wasn’t enough! I am 5’11”! I had zero room to move. Do you think that was all?! Do you?!?!?! NO! This girl proceeded to braid her hair and then take snapchat photos IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SHOW! ANNNNNDDDDD then – she started biting her nails!

I couldn’t wait for the show to be over and when it finally ended, when the wonderful girl (say it with sarcasm, please) sitting to my left got up to leave, there was a sweat mark on my pants from where she was “sitting” on me! Between her and the hair girl in front of me – I could not wait to get home and shower. I’m sure Shrek the Musical was great but what I saw was something entirely different – The Ogre Show!

p,s. – Due to my sitting in the shape of a pretzel for 2+ hours, my back hasn’t been the same since…”Are you there God? It’s me Fiona….My back is killing me and it’s only day number three!”

xoxo,

Tracy
