I met my ex at work. I was civil service, working admin in the front office of the squadron and he was an active duty fighter pilot. I thought he was very attractive, nice and extremely charming. He stopped at my desk one day to ask me a work-related question. I helped him with some paperwork and he told me a little bit about his personal life. I knew he was getting ready to move to a different base and I told him that hopefully things would be great at a new location with his family. His response was, “You don’t know, do you?” I told him I had no idea what he was talking about. He then told me that he was getting a divorce and his family would not be going with him. I told him I was sorry. He was leaving the office and told me not to be sorry but said he owed me a drink for helping him with his paperwork.
When I left work that day, I grabbed my phone from the locker (our building was secure and we were not allowed to use personal cell phones) and I had a text saying, “Hey, it’s (his callsign). Wanna settle up on those drinks tomorrow (Thursday) after work or are you busy? I responded, “Absolutely!”

We went for drinks but before we left work he sent me a message on Instant Messenger saying he forgot clothes so he would meet me in his flight suit. Now, I’m retired Air Force and I’m not impressed by positions, jobs, etc., so I was not about to sit at a restaurant/bar with someone in their flight suit…and I told him, “I don’t think so.” He met me wearing jeans and a button-up shirt. Later, he told me he ran to the base exchange and bought his entire outfit.
After drinks he said he needed to run to the house to let his dog out but that he wanted to come back and grab something to eat. We were having a great conversation over drinks but I really didn’t think he’d come back, since it was about a half hour drive to his house and it was getting pretty late. I was wrong. He came back, picked me up, and we went to Buffalo Wild Wings. It was one of the only places open that late. Again, we had really great conversation and a ton of chemistry. When we got back to my house, I invited him in. He came inside, gave me a hug and kiss, and told me he had a great night. I told him that I didn’t want the night to end.
Fast forward to 5:00AM the following morning. He’s sitting on the side of the bed, getting dressed and he makes the comment, “I didn’t think I’d be doing that until I got to Vegas.” He was leaving to go to Vegas for a week later that day. And…that’s the beginning of the ridiculousness. Get ready people! It’s about to get good!
