I have a question.
At what point in parenting are we allowed to tell our children:
“No. You cannot wear that. Not because I’m suppressing your self-expression. Because that garment has surrendered.”
I’m all for personal style. Wear the crop top. Wear the shorts. Dye your hair purple. Put 14 friendship bracelets on one arm. Live your best life.
But somewhere along the way, did we stop acknowledging that clothes are still supposed to cover the parts they were designed to cover?
If your shorts have migrated so far north that both hiney cheeks are participating in the theme-park experience separately…we may need the next size.
And bras and bikini tops? I am begging the textile industry to stop pretending a triangle the size of a Dorito is adequate structural coverage.
I’m not asking anyone to dress like they’re churning butter in 1847.
I’m asking for basic fabric-to-body cooperation.
And before anyone comes for me with “Stop policing girls’ bodies!” — NOPE. I’m not policing the body.
I’m questioning the garment. There’s a difference.
The body is doing exactly what bodies do.
The shorts are the ones failing the assignment.
Because there are some things Mickey Mouse simply did not consent to seeing on his way to the castle.
Your Fairy Groundmother has spoken. 🪄
Until next time…xoxo
Tracy
