Witch Hunt? Why Not? It’s almost spooky season!

Show of hands…who works with shady individuals? We’re talking the type of shade that will block the sun like a total eclipse! Pick me, Pick me!!! These past few months out of my 37 year professional career have been the most toxic, working with some of the most unprofessional individuals I have ever encountered!

My youngest and I started car-pooling just three weeks ago. A few days a week it’s easy for her to drop me off and go on to school and pick me up when her classes are over. She will come in and wait until I get off and she will do her work on her laptop. Keep in mind she’s in her early 20s. My office coworkers know her and they like her. One day last week she was there and an individual that was to be my supervisor starting in October came into the office. After a while she text one of my office coworkers/friends wanting to know how often my daughter came into the office and how long she stayed. Now, instead of asking me herself, she decided it would be appropriate to text my coworker and request the information. Of course, my coworker/friend let me know what she was up to.

This past Tuesday my daughter came to pick me up again and came into the office. She passed this same individual in the hall on her way to my office. Shortly after that it just so happened that the executive in charge came down to the office for absolutely no reason. When she left, we all knew I would be getting a message very soon…..SURPRISE! I got a TEAMS message asking me to come see her. When. I got down to her office, she asked me if that was my daughter. I said yes. Her response to that was, “Family can’t be at work.” I told her that my daughter was there to pick me up and she did not want to hear it. She shook her head adamantly and said, “We conduct professional business and family can’t be at work. She has been here for an extended amount of time and that is not acceptable.” She also said, “I went down there and saw her in there and I thought that was weird.” So, this individual is NOT my supervisor either and has been throwing out little microaggressions here and there over the past few weeeks so I was not about to explain anything to her. I just said OK. She said thank you and I got up and left. Now, I completely understand not having family at work. I get it, I truly do. HOWEVER, she could have shown a bit of compassion and maybe asked if there was a reason my daughter was there, asked if everything was ok, etc……but noooooooooooo, she has zero compassion. She went off the information provided by her minion. Now – to top all of this off….the next morning, her administrative assistant asked my other cooworker if she would be willing to write something about family being in the office! WTF?!?!??! (Why the face?!?!?!?) What is the point of that?!?!?! She is NOT my supervisor?!?!?!? My supervisor NEVER had any sort of meeting with me to go over expectations, etc….they were just going on a witch hunt! Well guess what! I’m dusting my broom off cuz tonight, I ride!

Until next time…xoxo

Tracy
